The Honest Case for Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer is not a filing mill with a legal veneer. The subscription behind it is a working legal product: document templates that hold up for routine business use, attorney consultations included at the membership level, and a document library that stays organized without effort on your part. For an owner who is going to draft contracts, chase down a lease question, or want a lawyer on the phone twice a year, that platform is worth its price and the registered agent line inside it is a convenience rather than a cost.

Worth noting in a category that loves an introductory rate: the agent fee is $125 a year and our review found it identical across every membership tier, with no first-year discount attached. That is unusually straightforward pricing, and it is not what this page is criticizing.

The Question Is Scope, Not Honesty

What Rocket Lawyer sells is a platform. What Georgia law requires is one named party, holding a street address in this state, who will take delivery of a lawsuit on your behalf during business hours. Those are different purchases, and one of them is much smaller than the other.

If you will use the templates and the attorney access, buy the platform and enjoy it. If the reason you arrived here is that a formation service quietly attached an agent line to your order and you have never once opened the legal library sitting behind it, then $125 a year is buying scaffolding around a $99 job. Nothing is wrong with the product. It is simply larger than the requirement.

Georgia Coverage, Sized to the Requirement

We do one thing. Your entity is listed at our Georgia street address, staffed through business hours, and anything a process server delivers is scanned and emailed to you before the office closes that day. Reminders arrive ahead of the state's filing deadline. There is no document library, no consultation tier, and nothing above the plan to be upgraded into later. The one optional charge is published in advance: $15 per item to scan ordinary business mail.

We are not the low bid. BetterLegal's posted rate is $90 a year, which undercuts us, and a page criticizing other people's pricing would have no standing if it left that out. Among the lowest published Georgia rates, held flat, is what our own comparison supports.

Replacing Rocket Lawyer on Your Georgia Record

Georgia does something unusual here, and knowing it in advance saves a fruitless search. There is no standalone statement of change for registered agents in this state. The agent on record moves through one of two existing filings, both handled by the Corporations Division.

Between January 1 and April 1, the annual registration is already due, and naming the new agent on it costs nothing beyond the $60 the filing carries anyway. At any other point on the calendar you reach for the $30 amendment instead, which Georgia issues as Form CD 920. Either one can be submitted through eCorp or mailed in on paper.

Two details about the incoming agent govern what you can actually put on the form. O.C.G.A. § 14-11-209 requires the registered office to be a Georgia street address identical to the business office the agent works from, with the agent genuinely located there; post office boxes and mail drops are rejected outright. The record also captures which Georgia county the agent occupies, so that is needed too, not merely a street and a zip code.
